Connecting an AI Assistant

Each Promptless plugin has its own connector: a small program on your computer that lets an AI assistant such as Claude Desktop work on the site through that plugin’s API. The assistant acts as the WordPress user who set the connector up, with that user’s permissions — no more.

ConnectorWhat the assistant can doNeeds
Promptless WPBuild and edit pages, the design system, header, footer and announcement bar, menus, media, redirects, and check the whole siteA paid Promptless WP licence
Promptless CPT PagesCreate record types, fields and groupings; create, update, import and remove records—
Promptless FormsCreate and edit forms, send test submissions, read entries when allowed—
FlowMint WorkflowsCreate and test workflows, read run history, replay runsPromptless Forms

Every connector is set up the same way, from its own screen in WordPress: generate a connection, copy the command it shows, run it in Terminal, then quit and reopen Claude Desktop. The commands add separate entries to the same Claude Desktop configuration, so one conversation can use all four.

The full walkthrough, including Windows and Linux and the common problems, is in Setting Up the Promptless Connector; FlowMint’s differences are in its Connector Setup page.

Before the first task in a conversation, ask the assistant to run each connector’s preflight check. It reports the site, the connected user’s permissions, and a link to that plugin’s rulebook, which the assistant reads before making changes.

  • More than the connected user can. Connect with an administrator only when the assistant should be able to change the whole site. On Promptless WP, the site-wide tools (design settings, fonts, header, footer, popups, scaffold and reset) need Developer access.
  • Anything without an active Promptless WP licence, for the Promptless WP connector. The three free connectors keep working.
  • Delete without a way back, by default. Pages and records go to the trash unless a permanent delete is explicitly requested.
  • Run unlimited requests. The Promptless WP, CPT Pages and Forms connectors limit how often a tool can be called and answer with a retry time when a limit is reached. FlowMint’s connector has no limit of its own; only a signed-in account with the connector switched on can reach it.
  • Create a form before the page that embeds it. The page refers to the form by its id, [pforms_form id="…"]; a missing form renders as nothing.
  • Create a record type and its fields before a post grid that shows them, and set fields as filterable before turning on a grid’s filters.
  • Create the form before the FlowMint workflow that listens to it.

After a round of changes, ask the assistant to validate the whole site (wordpress_validate_site). It lists what is wrong, page by page, with the fix.
