What the Assistant Can Do

When you connect an AI assistant such as Claude Desktop through the Promptless connector, it gets 52 tools. Each tool is one action the assistant can take on your site. This page lists every tool by task, so you can see what the assistant can do and what it cannot.

You never call these tools yourself. You ask in plain language, and the assistant picks the tool. The names are useful when you read what the assistant did, or when you want to ask for a specific action.

Tools that remove or reset something say Removes in the table.

The assistant acts as the WordPress user whose application password the connector uses. It can do only what that user can do:

RequirementApplies to
A Promptless WP premium license and the edit pages capabilityEvery tool. Without them, every request is refused.
The publish pages capabilityPublishing a page. Without it, content is saved but the page stays unpublished.
Developer access in Promptless WP (Administrators have it)Every tool that changes the whole site: design settings, color palettes (create, update, delete, apply, relink), fonts, the header, footer and announcement bar, business identity, popups, reusable elements, the front page, wordpress_scaffold and wordpress_reset. Reading them needs only the first row.
The edit theme options capability (Administrators have it)The three menu tools, and the menu that wordpress_scaffold can create.
Permission to edit or delete that specific pageReading, deploying to, updating and deleting a page, and pointing a redirect at it.

If the user is a scoped editor, department scoping also applies: the assistant sees and changes only the pages in that person’s departments, and wordpress_status, wordpress_validate_site and wordpress_reset cover only those pages.

Developer access is the same rule the editor uses for Global Settings: it is the Promptless WP Access Level on the user’s profile (see Departments and Editor Access). An assistant connected as an Editor can build and edit pages but gets a “needs Developer access” refusal from the site-wide tools. wordpress_preflight reports which applies, as can_manage_site_settings.

For every tool’s fields and accepted values, the connector serves its schema document at /wp-json/promptless/v1/site/schema on your site. The assistant reads it at the start of each session.
