Location Maps

A Location / map (address) post field holds one address per record. On the record’s page it becomes a Google map; on cards it shows as plain text. No Google API key, coordinates or geocoding are needed: the map is built from the address itself. It works with or without Promptless WP.

  • A listing’s property, an office, a venue, a meeting place.
  • For a single address on an ordinary page, use Promptless WP’s Map section instead.
  • A location field is not the Event location used in event markup; that role needs a text field. Use both if you want a map and event markup.
  1. On the type’s Post Fields screen, select Add New, and set Display type to Location / map (address).
  2. Set Card position to where the address text should appear on cards (for example Subtitle (under title)), or Hidden in this context. The Single-post hero position has no effect for this type.
  3. Under Map options, choose Map placement, Zoom level, Load behavior and Directions link. Select Create field.
  4. On each record, enter a full street address in the field.

Map placementWhere the map sits on the record’s page: Above content, Below content, Sidebar, or Don’t show map on single posts. Placing it in the sidebar gives the page two columns.Below content

Load behaviorClick to load (privacy-friendly, recommended) shows a panel with the address and a Load map button; Google is contacted only when the visitor clicks. Load automatically loads the map as the page scrolls to it.Click to load
Directions linkShow a “Get directions” link below the map, which opens Google Maps directions in a new tab.On

The field’s label becomes the heading above the map.

In a record’s Post Fields box, Map placement: under the address overrides the type’s placement for that record: Default, Above content, Below content, Sidebar or Don’t show map.

A record with an empty address field shows the address saved in Promptless WP’s Business Identity settings (street, city, region, postal code and country), so a single-office site can leave the field blank. If neither has an address, no map is shown. See Business Identity.

  • One address per field. A second office needs a second field.
  • Not filterable or sortable. An address cannot be a filter in a post grid.
  • The map does not show. The record and Business Identity both lack an address, Map placement is Don’t show map on single posts, or the record overrides it to Don’t show map.
  • The wrong place is shown. Google matches the address text. Enter the full address with city and postal code.
  • The address appears on cards but not on the page’s header. That is by design: on the page, a location field is the map, not a header value.
