Troubleshooting

Each heading is something you might see. Most fixes are in Appearance → Customize; remember to select Publish, and clear any page cache before checking the live site.

Every admin screen says Promptless WP is not active

Section titled “Every admin screen says Promptless WP is not active”

The theme shows this warning whenever Promptless WP is missing, and a similar one when it is older than 1.3.0. Activate or update Promptless WP. The warning cannot be dismissed while the plugin is missing.

No menu is assigned to Primary Menu. Assign one in Appearance → Menus under Menu Settings → Display location. See Menus.

The menu has more items than fit before it collapses. In Header → Mobile Menu Breakpoint, raise Collapse menu to mobile at, for example to 1024px, or switch to the Stacked (Two Rows) layout.

It works only when all of these are true: Header Layout is Floating (Rounded Pill); the page is built with Promptless WP, has sections, and is in Full Width display mode; and no breadcrumb trail shows on the page. On blog posts, archives, search and shop pages it never applies.

A button needs both its text and its URL. On phones, only one button can stay in the header bar; the other moves into the menu drawer. See Header buttons.

Enable Top Bar is off, or neither Top Bar Left nor Top Bar Right has a menu. On phones with Collapse into Hamburger Menu, its links are inside the menu drawer.

The top bar can only stick when Sticky Header is also on, under Header → Header Appearance.

The item must be a top-level item in the Primary Menu location, with Display as mega menu ticked and at least one sub-item. Third-level items are not shown inside a mega panel.

Check that the icon name is in set:name form, such as lucide:book-open; an invalid name is cleared when you save the menu. Icons load from Iconify’s servers when the page is viewed, so a network that blocks api.iconify.design hides them.

Check, in order: Enable Announcement Bar is ticked; the Message has text; the current time is inside the start and end dates (site timezone); and you have not closed the bar in this browser. It never shows on Promptless WP Canvas pages. See Announcement bar.

The announcement bar shows [re:…] instead of the value

Section titled “The announcement bar shows [re:…] instead of the value”

Promptless WP is not active, or the site runs theme version 1.4.0 or earlier, which does not replace reusable element shortcodes in the bar. Type the text directly until you update the theme.

Breadcrumbs never show on the front page or on WooCommerce shop and product pages. Otherwise check the Show on option for that kind of page, and the Breadcrumbs box in the page’s editor sidebar. A trail that would contain only Home is not shown.

An SEO plugin (Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress, The SEO Framework or Slim SEO) is active. The theme leaves structured data to it, so the page carries one BreadcrumbList, not two.

Record type cards still show the date or author

Section titled “Record type cards still show the date or author”

For record types made with Promptless CPT Pages, the type’s own Post date and Post author settings decide, not the Customizer. Change them under Post Runtime → Post Types. See Archives.

Instant search says results are unavailable

Section titled “Instant search says results are unavailable”

Something is blocking WordPress’s REST API, often a security plugin, a firewall or password protection on a staging site. Pressing Enter still opens the full results page. Allow requests to /wp-json/wp/v2/search to restore instant results.

Section titled “A logo is hard to see on a dark header or footer”

Add Logo — dark backgrounds in Site Identity. For a different footer logo, use the footer logo settings in Footer → Footer Appearance.

Changes show in the Customizer but not on the live site

Section titled “Changes show in the Customizer but not on the live site”

Select Publish in the Customizer, then clear your page cache or host cache. The announcement bar schedule and dismissal in particular are decided when the page is generated, so a cached page keeps the old state.
