Menus
The theme uses WordPress’s own menus, edited in Appearance → Menus. It provides seven places to show a menu, and can display any top-level item of the primary menu as a mega menu: a wide panel of its sub-items, each with an icon and a line of description.
Menu locations
Section titled “Menu locations”| Location | Where it shows | Levels shown |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Menu | The header, and the menu drawer on phones | 3 (dropdowns inside dropdowns) |
| Top Bar Left, Top Bar Right | The top bar, when it is turned on | 1 |
| Footer Column 1, Footer Column 2, Footer Column 3 | The footer’s three menu columns | 1 |
| Footer Menu | The footer’s bottom bar, beside the copyright line | 1 |
A location with no menu assigned shows nothing. Sub-items in a one-level location are not shown.
How to assign a menu
Section titled “How to assign a menu”- Go to Appearance → Menus and create or select a menu.
- Add pages, posts, custom links or categories, and drag items under others to make dropdowns.
- Under Menu Settings, tick the Display location for this menu.
- Select Save Menu.
You can also assign locations in Appearance → Customize → Menus.
On phones, the primary menu moves into the menu drawer. Each item with sub-items gets its own open and close button, so the item’s link still works.
How to make a mega menu
Section titled “How to make a mega menu”A mega menu turns one top-level item’s dropdown into a panel of cards. Each sub-item becomes a card with an optional icon, its title, and supporting text.
- Go to Appearance → Menus and open the primary menu.
- Make sure the item has sub-items one level below it.
- Expand the top-level item and tick Display as mega menu.
- Expand each sub-item and fill in Icon (Iconify name) and Supporting text.
- Select Save Menu.
These fields appear only in Appearance → Menus, not in the Customizer’s menu panel.
Mega menu fields
Section titled “Mega menu fields”| Field | Shown on | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Display as mega menu | Top-level items | Shows this item’s sub-items as a multi-column panel. |
| Icon (Iconify name) | Every item | An icon from the Iconify library, written as set:name, for example lucide:book-open. Browse names at icon-sets.iconify.design. |
| Supporting text | Every item | A short description under the title. When empty, the item’s WordPress Description is used instead (turn it on under Screen Options). |
Icons and supporting text show only on the cards inside a mega panel. On ordinary menu items and dropdowns they are stored but not displayed.
On phones, a mega panel becomes a section that opens and closes inside the menu drawer, like any other dropdown.
Using the connector
Section titled “Using the connector”When an AI assistant builds a menu with Promptless WP’s wordpress_menu tool,
each item can carry mega, icon and description, and the theme saves them
into these same fields. wordpress_get_menu reads them back. See
Connector Tools.
Limits and common problems
Section titled “Limits and common problems”- The item shows as a normal dropdown. A mega menu needs a top-level item in the Primary Menu location, with Display as mega menu ticked and at least one sub-item.
- Third-level items are missing from the mega panel. A mega panel shows only the sub-items directly under the top-level item.
- The icon field was cleared when I saved. The name was not in
set:nameform, for examplelucide:phone. Copy the name exactly from Iconify. - Icons do not appear. Icons load from Iconify’s public servers when the
page is viewed. A network or security policy that blocks
api.iconify.designstops them showing; the cards still work without them.
