How AI Generation Works
Generate with AI reads your content, sorts it into Promptless WP sections, and lets you pick which ones to add to the page. The window steps through Add Content, Analyzing, Generating and Review & Import. Nothing is saved until you save the page.
When to use it
Section titled “When to use it”- You have the page’s text already, in a document or notes, and want it laid out as sections.
- You are moving content from an older site or a brochure.
To add one section by hand, or a section type the AI does not produce (Post Grid, Product Grid, Gallery, Map), add it in the editor instead; see Working with Sections. To have an assistant such as Claude write and build pages for you, use the connector.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- The site needs an OpenAI API key on Promptless WP → AI Settings. Without one, the window shows “No AI provider configured” with a Configure AI → link, and the buttons are disabled.
- You need the Developer (Full Access) access level. Without it, Generate with AI is not in the toolbar.
See AI Features Overview.
How to generate sections
Section titled “How to generate sections”- Open the page in the Promptless WP editor and select Generate with AI in the toolbar.
- Upload a file or paste your content. See Document Upload.
- Select Organize Into Sections. To stop it, select Cancel Generation.
- The Preview panel lists each generated section with its type, heading and number of items. All are selected at first.
- Clear the checkbox on any section you do not want. Select All toggles every section.
- Choose a Strategy and Effects (see Options below).
- Select the import button, for example Import 3 Sections → (the number follows your selection). The sections are added to the end of the page.
- Check each section in the canvas, then save with Update (or Publish on a draft).
If you do not like the result, undo the import with Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac) before saving.
Options
Section titled “Options”These appear in the Preview panel once sections have been generated. They are applied when you import.
| Option | Choices | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strategy | Balanced, Light Theme, Dark Theme, Smart Auto | Sets each imported section’s light or dark theme. Balanced alternates light and dark; Light Theme and Dark Theme use one throughout; Smart Auto picks per section from its content. The imported sections’ layouts are also adjusted to their content, for example the number of columns. | Balanced |
| Effects | None, Subtle, Balanced, Dramatic | Adds background gradients to roughly 30%, 50% or 70% of the imported sections. The gradient is written into each section’s custom CSS, so you can remove it there. | None |
What to check after import
Section titled “What to check after import”- Wording. The AI is told to keep your text exactly, but read every section against the source.
- Section types. If content landed in the wrong type, delete that section and add the right type by hand.
- Buttons and links. Only buttons that were in your content are created, and Markdown links lose their addresses. Add them in each section.
- Images. None are added. Choose them from the Media Library or generate them.
- Missing content. Only about the first 10,000 characters are used.
The editor’s audit also checks the page before you publish; see Editor Audit.
Limits and common problems
Section titled “Limits and common problems”- The same content gives the same result. Results are kept for 24 hours. To get a fresh attempt, change the content slightly or select Clear AI Cache on Promptless WP → Cache Management.
- An error appears instead of sections. The window names the problem, with Try Again and Technical Details. See AI Troubleshooting.
- A timed-out request is retried once automatically before an error is shown.
