Release notes
Each version below lists what you notice after updating. The complete technical history is in the plugin’s CHANGELOG.md, which also lists every version before 1.5.3.
1.8.7 — 2026-09-21
Section titled “1.8.7 — 2026-09-21”- Large photos no longer show as missing in the SEO panel. A photo over
2560 pixels — most photos from a phone — is stored by WordPress under a
-scaledname, and Promptless WP looked for it under the original name. The SEO panel and site validation then reported “The image … is not in the media library” for images that display fine. They are now found. - Large photos load at the right size. The same miss meant those photos were published without the markup that lets a phone download a smaller copy and lets the browser reserve space before the image arrives. They now get it, which makes pages with large photos load faster and shift less.
- The SEO panel only reports a broken image when it is broken. An image you cropped in the media library, a file added by FTP, or a JPEG kept beside WebP copies was reported as missing although it displayed. It is now reported only when the file is actually gone.
1.8.6 — 2026-09-20
Section titled “1.8.6 — 2026-09-20”- A Team list at 1 member per row runs the full width again. 1.8.5 narrowed the bio to a set line length; that is reverted, so the text spans the section as it did before. The photo stays lined up with the name, which is the part of the 1.8.5 change worth keeping. Update if you use that layout.
1.8.5 — 2026-09-20
Section titled “1.8.5 — 2026-09-20”- A background video is no longer reported as a broken link. A hero or
FAQ background video, a split video and a section video are files, not
addresses visitors go to, but the SEO panel and site validation read
any field whose name ends in
_urlas a link — so every page with a video uploaded to your own site raised “does not resolve to any page, archive or term”. The same warning appeared on a button linking to a file, such as a PDF brochure. A link to a file is now checked as a file: it passes when the file is there, and is still reported when it is not. - A long bio reads better in a Team list. With Display Style set to List and 1 member per row — the layout for one person with a real bio — the text used to run the full width of the page, about 116 characters a line, and the photo sat halfway down the bio. The text now stops at about 72 characters and the photo lines up with the name. Nothing changes at 2 per row, in the grid, or in the featured layout.
- A video or poster that is missing from the media library is now reported. Until now nothing checked it, so a deleted video left a silent gap on the page.
1.8.4 — 2026-09-19
Section titled “1.8.4 — 2026-09-19”- The connector’s site-wide tools now need Developer access, the same as Global Settings in the editor (administrators have it by default). An assistant connected as an Editor can still build and edit pages, but can no longer change design settings, fonts, the header, footer or announcement bar, popups, reusable elements, business identity or the front page, or run scaffold or reset.
- The Map section’s note now describes the loading mode you picked (it used to say the map never loads automatically, even with the default Show immediately), and its address help points to Promptless WP → Business Identity.
- Accessibility fix: the Alt Text you type for each Gallery image now reaches the grid image on the live page. Until now every gallery grid image was published with empty alt text, so screen readers skipped it.
- Shortcode display mode keeps your page text. Saving a page set to Shortcode no longer replaces the text you wrote around
[promptless_wp](and the shortcode itself); the page shows your text with the sections where the shortcode is. If a page lost its text this way, restore it from the WordPress Revisions screen. - Word documents with tables are read once, in order: each table row arrives as one line instead of the whole table being repeated at the end. Old
.docfiles are no longer offered; you are asked to save them as.docx. - Uploading a large font file now shows the warning about its effect on page speed, and the upload box states the real 10MB limit.
- The oldest entry in the Global Settings History tab now reads Original settings with a plain description, instead of an internal code and “0 changed”.
- Status badges show on cards without an image. A Promptless CPT Pages status such as Cancelled or For sale sits on the featured image; on a post-grid card with no image it used to disappear. It now shows above the title.
- AI assistants embed forms correctly. The connector’s rules told assistants to use
[fre_form], an old shortcode name that shows as plain text on the page; they now use[pforms_form]. Site validation also tells you to rename an old[fre_form]rather than to install a plugin. - List, featured and carousel post grids no longer get a column setting they do not use (which site validation then reported).
1.8.3 — 2026-09-14
Section titled “1.8.3 — 2026-09-14”- Pages with a post grid, product grid or map load less stylesheet code, with no change to how they look.
1.8.2 — 2026-09-12
Section titled “1.8.2 — 2026-09-12”- A maintenance release that passes the WordPress Plugin Check with no errors; nothing changes in how the plugin behaves.
1.8.1 — 2026-09-12
Section titled “1.8.1 — 2026-09-12”- A Revision history button beside Preview lists every saved version of a page, compares any version with the current page side by side, and restores it into the editor as unsaved changes.
- Preview across site in Global Settings stages a design change so you can preview it on any page, share a review link that needs no login, schedule it, or apply it, and a History tab restores earlier settings.
- Administrators can create departments under Pages → Departments and limit a user to editing, publishing and deleting only their department’s pages.
- Renaming or moving a published page now redirects its old address to the new one, and the connector can map old URLs from a previous site onto new pages.
- The editor’s SEO panel updates as you type, badges each section that has problems, and jumps to the section when you select a finding.
- Translations made with WPML or Polylang now start with the page’s sections, right-to-left languages load mirrored layouts, and WordPress 6.4 or newer is required.
1.8.0 — 2026-09-06
Section titled “1.8.0 — 2026-09-06”- Sections that accept a video have a Video Captions field for a WebVTT (
.vtt) caption file. - Screen readers now hear product-grid star ratings, and decorative icons are no longer announced as unnamed images.
- A button that opens a popup or lightbox is now a real button, and a button with no destination is no longer a link that goes nowhere.
- Post-grid pagination, product-grid buttons and the map’s “Get directions” link now name what they point to.
- The editor’s dialogs, section list, repeaters and palette picker work fully with the keyboard, and the toolbar stays reachable at 400% zoom.
1.7.1 — 2026-09-03
Section titled “1.7.1 — 2026-09-03”- Fixes a 1.7.0 problem where heroes and animated content showed as empty bands and icons as grey boxes.
1.7.0 — 2026-09-02
Section titled “1.7.0 — 2026-09-02”- Post grid cards can place the image below the content in the grid and carousel styles.
- Reusable elements such as
[re:office_phone]now resolve inside popups instead of showing the raw token. - The Smart Accessibility Colors setting now shows the same state in the editor as on the site.
- Row-based post grid styles now align their contents to the top, so thumbnails line up.
- Carousel card images keep all four rounded corners when the card image style is inset.
1.6.0 — 2026-08-29
Section titled “1.6.0 — 2026-08-29”- Features has a new Listing style: text rows with an optional value on the right, for menus, price lists and schedules.
- Stats and Team have a new Featured style that shows the first item large beside the rest, and Team has a new List style with one member per row.
- Stats has a new Band style that sets the numbers on one continuous strip, with its own colour option.
- FAQ has a new List style that shows every answer open, with no expand or collapse.
- Checklist items can be sorted into named groups, each with its own subheading.
- A four-column grid no longer drops its last item onto a second row, and stat numbers now size themselves to fit their column.
1.5.9 — 2026-08-22
Section titled “1.5.9 — 2026-08-22”- Uploaded custom fonts now show in the editor preview, not only on the live site.
1.5.8 — 2026-08-21
Section titled “1.5.8 — 2026-08-21”- Reconnecting the Promptless WP connector no longer signs out the other Promptless connectors.
- Tested with WordPress 7.1.
1.5.7 — 2026-08-19
Section titled “1.5.7 — 2026-08-19”- The gallery lightbox shows its previous and next buttons in a bottom bar on tablets as well as phones, so they no longer cover wide photos.
1.5.6 — 2026-08-17
Section titled “1.5.6 — 2026-08-17”- Fixes sections with a custom background colour that showed the theme’s default background on some sites with caching or combined stylesheets.
1.5.5 — 2026-08-17
Section titled “1.5.5 — 2026-08-17”- Gallery items can be videos from YouTube, Vimeo, an MP4 link or the media library, played in the lightbox.
- Gallery has a new Inline style that places the photo grid beside the content.
- Testimonials in the spotlight style can sit on a card-style banner.
- Remix now offers the carousel layout for Features and Testimonials sections with six or more items.
- Card alignment now applies to post grid and product grid carousels, and on phones a carousel shows one full card plus a sliver of the next.
1.5.4 — 2026-08-13
Section titled “1.5.4 — 2026-08-13”- Card images no longer show a white band beneath them on iPhone and iPad.
- An autoplaying carousel resumes on touch devices after you use its play or pause button.
1.5.3 — 2026-08-13
Section titled “1.5.3 — 2026-08-13”- Features, Testimonials, Post Grid and Product Grid can show their cards as a carousel, with options for cards per view, looping and autoplay (off by default).
- Testimonials has a new Marquee style that scrolls continuously, with a pause control below the strip, plus new Spotlight and Inline styles.
- A card, step, team member, stat or checklist item with a link but no link text now links its heading, and a linked gallery image opens its link instead of the lightbox.
- Checklist can sit on a banner-style card with its own colour.
- The Connector page offers one-click install for Promptless Forms and Promptless CPT Pages.
- Fixes an editor crash on pages with a Testimonials spotlight section.
