Working with WordPress Themes

Promptless WP renders a page’s sections with its own page templates, so it works with any theme. Your theme supplies the header, footer and site-wide styles around the sections; the sections take their colours, fonts and spacing from Promptless WP’s Global Settings, not from the theme.

  • You are choosing how a Promptless page should sit in your theme: full screen with no header, full width inside the theme, or inside the theme’s normal content area.
  • A section looks boxed in, or the page shows a duplicate title, in a third-party theme.
  • You are deciding whether to use the Promptless theme.
  1. Edit the page or post in WordPress.
  2. In the Promptless WP box, select Activate Promptless WP if the builder is not active yet.
  3. Choose a Display Mode.
  4. Update the page. To edit the sections, select Edit with Promptless WP.
Display ModeWhat it doesWhen to use it
Full Width - With theme header/footerKeeps the theme’s header and footer and renders the sections across the full width of the window, without the theme’s page title or content container. Most pages. This is the default.
Canvas - Blank page (no header/footer)Renders only the sections: no theme header, footer or other theme markup. WordPress’s head and footer scripts still load, so analytics and other plugins keep working.Landing pages, coming-soon pages, campaign pages.
Shortcode - Use [promptless_wp] in your pageLeaves the page on the theme’s normal template. The sections appear where you place the [promptless_wp] shortcode in the page content. The box shows a Copy button for it.Placing sections inside another page builder’s layout. See the warning below.

The shortcode only outputs sections when the page’s display mode is Shortcode, so it never renders the sections twice. It works in Elementor, Divi and Beaver Builder previews.

For Full Width and Canvas, Promptless WP looks in the active theme for a template named aisb-fullwidth.php or aisb-canvas.php. If the theme has one, it is used; otherwise Promptless WP uses its own template from the plugin’s templates/ folder. Any theme, or a child theme, can supply its own version this way.

The Promptless theme ships both templates, so on the Promptless theme a Promptless page uses the theme’s header, footer and page structure. It also declares itself a native theme, which turns off the compatibility adjustments described below because it does not need them. You do not need the Promptless theme to use Promptless WP.

On a Full Width page, some themes still print their page title or wrap content in a narrow container. Promptless WP adjusts these themes through their own settings filters, not with CSS overrides:

ThemeWhat Promptless WP changes on its pages
AstraHides the page title and uses Astra’s page-builder layout.
GeneratePressHides the page title and removes the sidebar.
OceanWPHides the page header (title and breadcrumbs).
Any other themeHides the page’s own title in the main content.

These apply only to pages with the builder active in Full Width mode. Canvas pages need none, and Shortcode pages keep the theme’s normal layout.

  • In the Promptless theme, the header, top bar, footer and announcement bar are theme settings in Appearance → Customize, and an AI assistant can also set them through the Promptless connector. The theme’s header and footer pick up your Promptless colours. See Announcement Bar.
  • In other themes, the header, menus, footer and sidebars stay under the theme’s control. Set them in the theme’s own settings.
  • Section colours and fonts come from Promptless WP’s Colors & Branding and Typography settings. Changing your theme’s colours does not change the sections; set both to match.
  • Sections do not appear. Check that Promptless WP is active for the page and that the page has sections. In Shortcode mode, check that [promptless_wp] is in the page content.
  • The page title appears above the sections, or the sections are boxed in. Your theme is not one of those adjusted above and does something the generic adjustment does not cover. Set the page to the theme’s full-width or no-sidebar layout, switch to Canvas, or add an aisb-fullwidth.php template to a child theme.
  • Custom post types. The display modes apply to posts and pages. Record pages from Promptless CPT Pages are rendered by that plugin.
  • Changes do not show after switching mode. Clear any page cache. See Performance.
