FAQ Sections

An FAQ section shows a list of questions and answers under the standard section header. Visitors can open answers one at a time in an accordion, switch between them as tabs, or read them all at once as a list. Every FAQ section also feeds the page’s FAQ structured data, so search engines can read the questions and answers.

  • Common questions about a service, a process, pricing or eligibility.
  • A help or support page with many short answers.
  • Answering objections just before a call to action.

Use a Checklist section for short statements that need no answer, such as what a plan includes. Use a Features section when each item is a topic with an icon or image rather than a question.

Display StyleWhat visitors see
Accordion (default)Each question expands to show its answer. Opening one closes any other open answer in the same section. All answers start closed.
TabsThe questions become a row of tabs; the selected tab’s answer shows below. The first tab is open when the page loads.
ListEvery question and answer is shown, with nothing to open or close.
Items LayoutWhat it does
Inline (default)With a Left or Right layout, the questions fill the second column; if the section has media, the media takes that column and the questions move under the header text. With Center, they sit below the header.
GridThe questions sit in two columns below the header.

Items Layout applies to Accordion and List. It is hidden for Tabs.

The Advanced tab holds the section’s anchor ID, CSS classes and custom CSS. See Working with Sections.

Promptless WP adds FAQPage structured data (JSON-LD) for every page that has an FAQ section. If a page has more than one FAQ section, all their questions go into one FAQPage entry. A question with an empty question or answer is left out. The display style makes no difference: answers hidden in an accordion or tab are still included.

You can see what a page outputs in the editor’s SEO panel. See SEO Panel & Schema.

  • Only one answer is open at a time. This is how the Accordion style works. To show every answer, choose List.
  • There is no Button Position option. It appears only when Items Layout is Grid. In the Inline layout the buttons always come before the outro text.
  • A question is missing from the structured data. It has an empty question or answer. Fill in both.
  • Many tabs crowd the row. Set Tab Layout to Horizontal Scroll, or switch to Accordion. Tabs suit a few questions with longer answers.
