Document Upload
The first step of Generate with AI is giving it your content: upload a Word or Markdown file, or paste text. This page covers what it accepts and how to prepare content so it becomes the sections you expect. You need an OpenAI key and the Developer access level; see AI Features Overview.
What it accepts
Section titled “What it accepts”| Input | Accepted | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Word document | .docx | Up to 5MB. Only the text is read, in document order; each table row becomes one line with its cells separated by ” | ”. |
| Older Word document | .doc | Not accepted — the older binary format cannot be read. Open it in Word and save it as .docx. |
| Markdown file | .md | Up to 5MB. Headings, lists and bold are kept. |
| Pasted text | Markdown or plain text | Paste into the Paste Markdown tab. |
PDF, PowerPoint, Excel, Google Docs and other formats are not uploaded directly. Copy the text and paste it instead.
How to add your content
Section titled “How to add your content”- Open the page in the Promptless WP editor and select Generate with AI in the toolbar.
- In Upload Your Document, choose a tab:
- Upload Document: drop a file on the box, or select it to browse.
- Paste Markdown: paste your text into the box.
- The panel shows Document Content Extracted with the start of the text and its word and character counts. Check that the text is what you expected.
- To start again, select Remove file (after an upload) or Clear (after pasting).
Then continue with How AI Generation Works.
How to structure content
Section titled “How to structure content”The generator relies on headings to decide where sections start. It follows these rules:
- A level-1 heading becomes the heading of the first section. If a level-2 heading follows it directly, both go into that first section.
- Each level-2 heading starts a new section.
- Level-3 headings under a level-2 heading become cards or items in that section.
- Bullet lists stay as text in the section unless they are headed items.
A Markdown example that should produce a hero section followed by a features section with three cards:
# Main Page Title## A one-line tagline
A short welcome paragraph.

Limits and common problems
Section titled “Limits and common problems”- Word documents lose their heading levels. Only the text of a
.docxis read, one paragraph after another; heading styles, bold and bullet formatting are not passed on. The AI then has to guess the structure. For the most predictable result, use a Markdown file or paste Markdown with#,##and###headings. - Links are removed. Markdown links keep their text but lose the address, and images are reduced to their alt text. Add links and images in the editor after import.
- Code blocks and front matter are removed from Markdown before the AI sees it.
- Text in headers, footers and images is not read from Word documents. Move it into the body.
- Only about the first 10,000 characters are used. Split long documents and generate each part.
- The file is refused. It is over 5MB, or not a
.docxor.mdfile (an older.docmust be saved as.docxfirst). See AI Troubleshooting.
