Domain Migration
Promptless WP stores each page’s sections as structured data. Image addresses and links you typed in full are stored with the domain they were entered on, and a general search-and-replace tool may not see inside that data correctly. Promptless WP → Domain Migration finds the old address in Promptless content and replaces it with the new one, touching only real links and image addresses, not plain text that happens to mention the domain.
When to use it
Section titled “When to use it”- You moved a site from staging or a local copy to its live address.
- You changed the site’s domain.
- You cloned a site as the starting point for another.
- After any database move, links or images in sections still point at the old address.
Move the site first with your usual migration plugin or host tool, then run this on the new site.
Links you choose with the editor’s page picker are stored as site-relative paths, such as /about/, so they keep working on any domain without this tool.
How to migrate addresses
Section titled “How to migrate addresses”- Back up the database. The migration cannot be undone.
- Go to Promptless WP → Domain Migration.
- In Old Domain, enter the previous address with its protocol, for example
https://staging.example.com. - In New Domain, enter the new address, for example
https://example.com. - Tick the extra areas you want included (see Options).
- Select Preview Changes. The preview lists each page, and each extra area, with how many addresses it would update.
- Select Run Migration and confirm. The result reports how many addresses were updated across how many pages.
- Open a few pages on the new address and check images, buttons and menus.
Options
Section titled “Options”| Option | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Include image/media URLs | Also updates addresses under /wp-content/uploads/, such as section images and video posters. Leave it off if your migration tool already rewrote media addresses. | Off |
| Include navigation menu URLs | Updates custom links in WordPress menus. | Off |
| Include theme customizer settings | Updates addresses in the Promptless theme’s header button and footer content. | Off |
| Include custom font URLs | Updates the addresses of font files uploaded in Global Settings. | Off |
Without any option ticked, the tool updates links in the sections of posts, pages and reusable elements, and in each page’s saved backup copy of its sections. Pages in the trash are skipped.
What it changes and what it does not
Section titled “What it changes and what it does not”- Link and image fields (button links, image fields, video posters and similar) are updated wherever the old domain appears in them.
- Text and rich-text fields are updated only where the old domain is inside a link or image address in the HTML. A sentence that mentions the old domain in words is left as written.
- External links to other websites are not touched, because they do not contain the old domain.
- Content outside Promptless WP, such as ordinary post content, widgets or other plugins’ settings, is not touched. Use your migration plugin, or WP-CLI’s
wp search-replace, for those.
Limits and common problems
Section titled “Limits and common problems”- “No URLs matching the old domain were found.” Check the exact form of the old address:
https://versushttp://, and with or withoutwww.. Run the tool once for each form that was used. - AI features stop working on the new server. API keys are encrypted with
AUTH_KEYinwp-config.php. Keep the same security keys when you move, or re-enter the OpenAI key afterwards. See Plugin Settings. - Images are broken after migrating. Either the files were not copied to the new server’s uploads folder, or media addresses still use the old domain. Check the files exist in the Media Library, then run the tool again with Include image/media URLs ticked.
- Old page addresses from a previous site. This tool changes the domain, not paths. To send old paths to new pages, see Redirects.
