Understanding the Interface
The Promptless WP editor fills the browser window. A toolbar runs across the top. Below it, the left panel is where you add and edit sections, the canvas in the middle shows the page as you build it, and the Structure panel on the right lists the page’s sections in order. To open the editor on a page, see Editor Overview.
Top Toolbar
Section titled “Top Toolbar”Most toolbar buttons are icons; hover over one to see its name.
- Back to Editor: return to the WordPress page screen.
- Add new section: open the section picker.
- Generate sections with AI: create sections from a document. See Document Upload.
- Global settings (the gear): site-wide colours, fonts and styles. You can also stage a change there to preview it across the site before applying it; see Staging Global Settings Changes.
- SEO audit and schema preview (SEO): findings for this page while you edit, and its structured data. See Audit While You Edit.
- Revision history: earlier saved versions of the page, to compare or restore. See Revision History.
- Preview changes: see the page without the editor.
- Publish / Update: saves the page. A draft is published; a live page is updated. The label changes with the page’s status (Update Scheduled, Update Private…).
The toolbar also has:
- Shortcode Browser: find the shortcode for a reusable element or a WordPress menu and copy it, to paste into a text field. See Reusable Elements.
- Toggle Left Sidebar and Toggle Right Sidebar: hide or show the left panel and the Structure panel. The Structure panel starts hidden.
- Save Settings: saves Global Settings. It is separate from Publish / Update, which saves the page, and is only active when a global setting has changed.
- Preview across site: shown while Global Settings is open. It stages the settings so you can see them on any page before applying them.
- The page title after Editing:, the page’s status (Draft, Published, Scheduled, Private or Pending Review), and a lock icon. The lock shows that you hold the edit lock on the page; see Editor Overview.
Generate with AI and Global settings only appear if your access level includes them.
Left panel
Section titled “Left panel”The left panel shows one of three things:
- Add Section, the section picker, when no section is selected. Select a section type to add it to the end of the page. When you have copied a section, a Paste Section card appears first.
- The selected section’s settings, when you select a section. The panel’s header shows the section type and its heading. Most sections have a Content tab (headings, text, items and buttons), a Layout tab (theme variant, section palette, background and display style) and an Advanced tab (Custom ID, Custom Classes and Custom CSS). Grid sections that pull in posts or products have a Query tab, the Map section a Map tab, and Testimonials an SEO tab. Sections that support it show a Remix layout button in the header.
- Global Settings, when you open them from the toolbar: site-wide colours, fonts, border radius, card and button styles and container width. Select Close settings to go back.
Canvas
Section titled “Canvas”The canvas shows the page’s sections as visitors will see them, updating as you type. Select a section in the canvas to edit it. Links and buttons in the canvas do not navigate, so a click never takes you away from the editor.
When the page audit finds problems in a section, a number appears on that section. Select it to open the SEO panel at that section’s findings; see Audit While You Edit.
An empty page shows No sections added yet.
Structure panel
Section titled “Structure panel”The Structure panel on the right lists every section with its type and heading. Select a row to edit that section and scroll the canvas to it. Each row has buttons to Move up, Move down, Delete section, Duplicate section, Copy to clipboard and Convert section type, and you can drag rows to reorder them. At the bottom, Paste inserts a copied section and Delete All removes every section.
When buttons or links on the page have no destination yet, the panel’s header shows how many, for example “3 links to review”. Select it to open the link wizard and assign them.
All of these are covered in Working with Sections.
Limits and common problems
Section titled “Limits and common problems”- Changes do not appear on the live page. The page is saved only when you select Publish or Update. Global Settings are saved separately with Save Settings.
- A panel has disappeared. It was hidden with Toggle Left Sidebar or Toggle Right Sidebar; select the same button to bring it back. Selecting a section in the canvas also reopens the left panel.
- The browser asks whether to leave the page. You have unsaved changes to the page or to Global Settings. Stay, then save with Publish / Update or Save Settings.
